The Carlsen (a Lion Bulk Handling Brand) Screw Conveyor System is used both for mechanical loading and unloading of Self-Discharging Cement Carriers and for the transfer of cargo between ships and shore based facilities. Screw conveyors are designed to handle fluidizable dry cargoes such as cement, fly ash and limestone powder. They are completely enclosed for dust-free operation.
Using our Airslide Loading System or the horizontal screw conveyor, we can create a fully-automatic regulated distribution arrangement on board, cement is loaded evenly into a ship’s holds, both longitudinally and transversely. This enables a safe and efficient loading operation and at the same time simplifies ballasting arrangements.
During unloading the cargo will be fluidized by our fluidized floor system, which is installed in the holds. The material flows from the fluidized bottom through a flow control gate into a vertical screw conveyor.
The Principle of Fluidization will be explained in the below mentioned video.
The vertical screw conveyor is used for elevating the cement above deck level. From the vertical screw conveyors the material flows through airslides or horizontal screw conveyors on deck to the center of the ship. From there the material is conveyed on shore either by a mechanical outloading boom or by a pneumatic pressure system.
Carlsen offers a wide range of mechanical systems for self-discharging ships. All systems have the fluidized floor system and vertical screw conveyors in common. However, layout, individual screw conveyor capacities and redundancy may vary depending on customer requirements. For horizontal conveying either airslides or horizontal screw conveyors are used, depending on the loading and unloading characteristics.
For mechanical unloading to silos or for transfer directly to cement trucks, the vessel can be fitted with a Carlsen outloading boom. The boom is connected to the shore facilities by flexible bellows. Dust-free Screw Conveyor System for loading and unloading cement carriers is designed with unique screw conveyors which can handle specific dry bulk materials. The screw technology is incorporating a totally-enclosed conveying line for environmentally-friendly operation. This ensures a dust-free process with minimal environmental impact on the surroundings as well as for the crew onboard the vessel and the stevedores ashore.
